Back in the 1950’s.  Before many of us were born, a remnant of WWII still haunted the world.  With the amount of European land given to Russia after the war, the Soviet Union threatened to become an economic and nuclear giant in our world.  Many, both here and in Europe, flirted with the idea that communism could be as viable as capitalism and maybe even more efficient.  They created the Communist Party, USA, a political party to advance their beliefs. There were others that warned communism could only work if the citizens gave up their individualism and personal rights to the state, and as usual when a threat is real or thought to be true, the people take notice.

Businesses (especially in Hollywood) began to create BLACKLISTS, a list of people who were disapproved of, were punished or boycotted.  Congress held hearings which that looked a lot like the Salem Witch Trials of the late 1600’s in our country.  The Blacklist’s destroyed friendships, people lost their livelihoods, and some never recovered.

In the end, even though the majority did not accept communism, neither did they accept “blacklisting."  This was one of many less than stellar moments for our nation. When this happens, the best the citizens can hope for is that we have learned what not to do.

Apparently not, 70 years later, here we are again.  We have just gone through 3-years of Congressional hearings and investigations of the Trump Administration to find out there truthfully was nothing there; it was a witch hunt which was founded on lies.  What benefit has the Resist movement brought to our nation? These feelings were created by social media, mainstream media, and the Democrat Party; all of them pushed the lie to America. It has divided families and we have lost friends because the lies have caused deep rifts for many Americans. And now to make sure we go full circle, Twitter and Facebook are blacklisting political thought --  like crazy.

If Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, and their friends in the tech world could get just this one thing right –  BLACKLISTS ARE EVIL -- we would all be better off.

Blacklists were evil in Salem in 1693, they were evil in Hollywood in 1950, and blacklists are evil on the internet in 2020.

Wikipedia describes the Hollywood blacklisting as:

The Hollywood blacklist was the colloquial term for what was in actuality a broader entertainment industry blacklist put in effect in the mid-20th century in the United States during the early years of the Cold War. The blacklist involved the practice of denying employment to entertainment industry professionals believed to be or to have been Communists or sympathizers. Not just actors, but screenwriters, directors, musicians, and other American entertainment professionals were barred from work by the studios. This was usually done on the basis of their membership, alleged membership in, or even just sympathy with the Communist Party USA, or on the basis of their refusal to assist Congressional investigations into the party's activities. Even during the period of its strictest enforcement, from the late 1940s through to the late 1950s, the blacklist was rarely made explicit or verifiable, but it quickly and directly damaged or ended the careers and income of scores of individuals working in the film industry.
