I Will Not Let An Exam Result Decide My Fate (Video)

Through a world of increased standardization, we are less likely to develop the creative, deep thinkers we need as a society. We increasingly rely on, and are judged by, the results on a standardized test. Those who can’t meet the adequate standards are cast as inferior or damaged goods. Humans are highly complex therefore, cannot (should not) be standardized.  Somewhere along the way someone decided what would be considered a “Smart” person.  Our increasing cookie cutter world is becoming so homogeneous (no thanks to tests like the SAT and the new Common Core standards) that we mold our learning specifically to it. Not doing well on this one test can have lasting effects on your future goals and asperations, because of your number (test score). School is a tool and not the “end all-be all” to learning. Everyday life will teach more, give more knowledge and understanding, than any test can actually measure. This premise is key.  A little tinkering, trial and error brings joy to learning. Whereas we may learn a lot from books and sources like Google, they cannot give anyone a fully fleshed out and developed mind. Remember, we must know where we have been to know where we are going and how to get there. ~ Jacob Deschenes

Fans and Friends Come to Say “Thank You for being Patti”

Patti Brooks took Whatcom County and KGMI by storm.  She brought a feisty, fearless attitude to speak the truth for conservative, constitutionally principled values.  “The Morning Show with Patti Brooks,” will be greatly missed as our Monday through Friday start your day with Patti.  A few personal and radio friends came together at Glynn’s Irish Pub to say thank you to Patti and let her know that she made a difference in their lives. I first met Patti through the Whatcom Tea Party event at the Mt. Baker Theater and feel fortunate to call her a friend.  In addition to this evenings event, I’ve included a little historical video of Patti at the April 15th, 2010, Taxed Enough Already (TEA) rally on the Guide Meridian, in Bellingham, Washington. ~ Kris Halterman

All Your Kids! “All Who’s Kids? Surely Not the Collectives?”

In this video, Harris-Perry states; “We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had kind of a private notion of children. Your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children. So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.” Well everyday they get bolder at admitting their objectives. This video is just a small piece of the puzzle headed our way. Look for some outstanding articles to be posted here in the near future on; Common Core, C-Scope, International Baccalaureate and all those “Think Global – Act Local” curriculums headed our way. ~Kris Halterman

Tangled – Government is Broken

This video is a step in the right direction.  Although I may not agree all of the suggested solutions, the direction is one that I can get behind.  (When we start with what we all agree upon, mix in a little constitutionality and common sense, there is a greater chance for success for everyone. ~ Kris Halterman (thanks to Randy for the video)

Dr. Carson’s 43 sec. solution for Health Care

Dr. Ben Carson, in 43 seconds was able to succinctly say to the world, what we need to put “care” back in the word, “health care.”  I found this transcript of his words at the Rush Limbaugh website.  It seems that the mainstream media is ignoring something that would truly fix health care.  Please be suer to go to the C-SPAN video clip of Dr. Carson’s full speech.  It’s worth the time and with more policy such as Dr. Carson’s, we’d solve a lot of problems in short order. “Are you listening Mr. President?  Are you listening Congressman Boehner?  Are you listening Senator Reid?  If  all politicians had this much common sense in their little finger, We the People, would solve the economic needs of our Country.” Dr. Carson on taxes; “What we need to do is come up with something simple. And when I pick up my Bible, you know what I see? I see the fairest individual in the universe, God, and he’s given us a system. It’s called a tithe.”We don’t necessarily have to do 10% but it’s the principle. He didn’t say if your crops fail, don’t give me any tithe or if you have a bumper crop, give me triple tithe. So …

Oakland Neighbors Policing Their Own Streets As They Lose Faith In Cops

In Oakland, California, the Arcadia Park citizens have banded together and developed a citizen’s police force. The frustration of being vicitimized by theives burglarizing their homes over 25 times in the span of two months left them no choice but to protect themselves. My comment is this; “When we become too dependent upon a system that has grown too big to provide the services it promises and above the people’s ability to pay for it, the people will solve it.” Click here to read the article.
