Banning fossil fuel benefits Does their abysmal grasp of energy and economics make Hillary and Bernie unfit to govern? ~ Paul Driessen “Natural gas is a good, cheap alternative to fossil fuels,” former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi famously intoned. (Psssst. Ms. Nancy, natural gas is a fossil fuel.) “If I thought there was any evidence that drilling could save people money, I would consider it. But it won’t,” President Obama said in 2008. “We can’t drill our way out of the problem” of high energy prices and disappearing supplies, he still insisted two years later. How shocked he must be now. Horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing – aka, fracking – has unleashed a gusher of oil and natural gas, sent oil prices plunging $100 a barrel since 2008, dropped US oil imports to their lowest level in 45 years, and saved American families tens of billions of dollars annually in lower energy costs. But if price and “peak oil” rationales fail, there is always “dangerous manmade global warming” to justify carbon-based energy and fracking bans, and renewable energy mandates and subsidies. Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton contend that climate change is an “existential threat” to people and planet. Senator …Read More »
With the millennial generation flocking to Bernie Sanders and Pied Piper socialism, a short course in basic Economic Literacy seems timely and necessary. While it is impossible to cover every detail, this article does provide intellectual ammunition on many of the most important aspects. Thank you for posting it, quoting from it, and forwarding it to your friends and colleagues. Best regards, Paul Economic Literacy 101 – Do Millennials really want the Big Government socialist policies Bernie and Hillary advocate? Paul Driessen America’s 18- to 34-year-old “Millennials” have been tutored in group-think schools that extol socialism. Now they lionize liberal politicians whose class-warfare prescriptions include taxing away all but maybe 1% of the nation’s 0.0001% billionaires’ wealth, then going after Wall Street, Big Business, millionaires and upper middle classes – and giving the “revenue” to those who “need” or “deserve” it more. The entire process revolves around three central questions. Which ruling class elites get to determine who loses, who wins, by how much? Who grants them the power to do so, and holds them accountable? And what happens when the inevitable discontent over their autocratic decisions boils over? Interestingly, many of the same generation have flocked to see films …Read More »
Everyday local and national news headlines screech “heath and safety,” it’s the moral thing to do! We are told; “What’s a few pennies, a few nickels, a few dimes, a few quarters, a few dollars, a latte-or-two, for the health and safety of a nation?” Hundreds (if not thousands) of latte’s later we are still being sold that same jargon. When will our sacrifices, our social obligation through taxation and regulation be enough? Are we affecting the poverty level? In the 1950’s the poverty level was 22.4%, in the year 2000 the poverty level was 11.3% and in 2010 the rate rose to 15.1% (after all that stimulus spending???) and yet we are still bombarded with the hysteria that the sky is falling, we have to force equality by sharing everything through mandated minimum wage, hundreds of new taxes and regulations and now President Obama and Governor Inslee are implementing their plans, by executive order (the actions of Kings over the Serfs) for massive new carbon restrictions “and” carbon taxes. More pain for the health and safety of our nation. Really? Well the best way to balance all of this is to reach out and expose the hypocrisy. Did you …Read More »
While the media’s attention is focused on the Veterans Association’s Special Lists, I ask that the citizens’ remember to place the blame squarely where it belongs…on the bureaucrats running the VA Hospital’s and staff. This Administration has a long history of dragging its feet to provide the promised benefits to our veterans. Some time ago the complaint was on shabby hospital facilities and staffing? Has that issue been dealt with? It’s time to demand that the folks who run the VA program to cleanup their own backyard and treat our Vet’s with the respect and dignity befitting those who have dedicated their lives to protect our Country. Now that I’ve got that rant off of my chest, please take a moment to read about the history of the “Memorial Day Holiday.” Where it took root and how to nurture and honor its intent. ~ Kris Halterman President’s Proclamation 2004 Here, you can read the proclamation and the prayer for peace rendered by the President of the United States of America on Memorial Day’s Eve, last year. “For more than two centuries, Americans have been called to defend the founding ideals of our democracy. On Memorial Day, a grateful Nation remembers …Read More »
Almost Twenty-Two Years Later … Whether it’s Hillarycare or Obamacare … What difference does it make now?
This weekend I received two emails. The first email had this cartoon image from 1992 and the current news topic of the day, Hillarycare. Later that day I received an email from a friend who had found the original article which addressed the issues portrayed within the cartoon. It has been said that if you wait long enough history will always repeat itself. In 1992 the public has enough sense to know that they did not want the government to take over their private sector health care or health insurance. Since that time the States creeped in quasi versions of Hillarycare. In 2010 the Federal Government pushed through their version known as Obamacare. Enjoy this blast from the past and ask yourself…what difference does it make now? ~ Kris Halterman The Dark Lessons of Utopia FEBRUARY 01, 1992 by ALEX KOZINSKI Judge Kozinski, who sits on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, left Romania in 1961 at age 11. An earlier version of this article appeared in The University of Chicago Law Review, vol. 58 (Spring 1991). This website is dedicated to local issues, so some of you might ask why I am sharing a post about Obamacare? Well, Obamacare is affecting everyone including Whatcom County individuals and businesses. Lately I have begun to hear people refer to the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, as ObamaScare. After receiving my personal notification from Regence on the discontinuation of my current plan and what they can replace it with for double the cost, I believe ObamaScare is the right label to give this unconstitutional affront to the American public. How is it possible that the best and the brightest minds in Washington D.C. cannot contemplate the economic devastation that will occur when over 10% of your disposable income is taken away from the vast majority of the American, tax paying public? How do you spell insanity? OBAMA SCARE, or OBAMASCARE? Karl Uppiano is the President of our local Whatcom Tea Party and frequently posts to his personal blog, Kakistocracy Report, Kakistocracy, (Government by the least qualified or least principled citizens). If you have not met Karl or read any of his personal opinion postings, then you are in for a treat. Whatcom County is blessed with a diverse community …Read More »
