Common Core has replaced Local Control and Local Voices in Public Education

One of the outcomes of Common Core has been to silence teachers who speak out against it.  Common Core has been federally adopted and  has silenced the voices of parents and teachers.  It is parents and  teachers role to advocate for the success of our children as it relates to the curriculm taught in our schools.  We need these voices to insure that we meet the needs of the children in our local communities. Is Common Core a good thing?  Or, is Common Core another step towards manipulating children to all look, think and act alike?  Kind of scary isn’t it?  Is it reminiscent of a future where we all live in idyllic communities such as that portrayed in the movie; “The Stepford Wives?”  Why would a nation built on rugged individualism strive to develop “Stepford Children,” or “Stepford Employees?” The YouTube video below, exemplifies the dangers of this national standardized curriculum called “Common Core.”  What will the future of education and the children who’s lives will forever be impacted by it, be?  Please take a moment to watch this video and talk to your child’s teacher. Rugged individualism – noun 1. individualism in social and economic affairs; belief not …

US Chamber of Commerce and Gates Foundation fund Media Blitz on ObamaCore

With so many complaints about the dumbing down of curriculum to meet the national standardized metrics of Common Core (aka ObamaCore) it should come as no surprise that they have begun a media blitz to espouse the wonderful future of public school education with standardized curriculum.   Common Core received huge financial support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation with $150M of seed money.  This agreement was signed with a corporate agreement to develop a master curriculum benchmarked to the UNESCO goals for the 21st Century. Common Core will so radically change local school curriculum’s that they have begun to adjust the scoring for SAT’s to accommodate the likely outcome that these new standards will have on testing scores for college admissions.  Teachers are instructed to spend less time on teaching students about the contextual meaning behind classic literature and history, and more time on how to read instructual manuals.  Students must stay within the four corners of texts?  They are not to teach context?  How do you understand President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, or Steinback’s Grapes of Wrath without context?  The next time you attend a School Board or PTA meeting and you wonder what …

ObamaCore … are your Children being Educated or Indoctrinated?

Last year we spent a lot of time talking about “Common Core.”  This new standardized, national takeover of public education is changing traditional education in many ways.  It has not been tested for success, nor did the curriculum receive public review. In a recent conversation I had with a local teacher it was revealed that they are giving the school kids historical documents to read, but they are instructed not to give any of the “contextual” background for why things happened, or were written.  Fine historical documents like “The Gettysburg Address,” are approved for reading but not to spend time instructing on what happened that spawned its publication? Well, around the nation common core is not receiving positive review from the parents of students who believe that public schools have been transformed from vessels of learning and teaching.  Public schools were created to be the structure of teaching to learn how to read, write, cipher and create personal conclusions.  They are being transformed into “International Baccalaureate Centers of indoctrination that reject the notion that you are an individual.  That it matters more how your actions affect a fig leaf half way around the world than the fig leaf in your …

How will Common Core change Public Education here and around the Nation?

View Full Album This week many people have seen the YouTube video of Mr. Small, who was arrested and faced a potential $2500 fine and up to 10 years in jail for allegedly assaulting a police officer.  Apparently all charges have been dropped, but why did this escalate to an arrest?  Where was the School Board, the police and the audience members in attendance who stood up for Mr. Small for his freedom of speech rights? What did Mr. Small do?  Watch the video (click here) and decide for yourself if this man, this husband, this father, this concerned American citizen did anything that justified the treatment he received at an open, public school board meeting?  When did it become a crime to ask a question of publicly elected officials that weren’t submitted in advance by a scripted process? Saturday Morning Live has a lot of information on our website related to Common Core and call on all individuals, parents, grandparents and US Constitution loving American Citizens to take time our of your day to learn about what the rewriting of curriculum will cost America.  It’s not just about the tens of millions and billions of dollars that will be …

Two Perspectives on “Common Core”

The discussion surrounding the full implementation of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) or as its more commonly known (pun intended) “Common Core,” is heating up.  The discussion seems to be surrounding on different elements; but the common theme I hear is that there’s too much secrecy, no transparency and public debate on the national standardization of public school curricula.  Will the good people of Washington State weigh-in on this too?  I am hoping and praying that you do.  Any curriculum that has not had rigorous study and open public debate, should not be turned out upon an unsuspecting populace as a grand experiment on all of our children.  Too big to fail, is too big to risk our children’s future; not to mention the total intrusion on State’s rights and local control of our public schools. ~ Silence Do-Good Sunday, June 09, 2013 NYT Posts Anti-Common Core Op-Ed There’s much in here to like: By definition, America has never had a national education policy; this has indeed contributed to our country’s ambivalence on the subject. As it stands, the Common Core is currently getting hit mainly from the right. Tea Party-like groups have been gaining traction in opposition to the …
