Wondering About the Waterfront? Port of Bellingham Commissioners Weigh-In Port of Bellingham Commissioner Scott Walker and “former” Port of Bellingham Commissioner Doug Smith, join the SML show to talk about the evolution of and where we are today on the Bellingham Waterfront Redevelopment project. After the 8:00 AM show, Commissioners Walker and Smith joined Lorraine Newman and myself to continue our discussion of the Waterfront Redevelopment Project.  I’ve included that interview and also Commissioner Walker’s emailed comment to me about our conversation today: With the very thin media coverage of this project, it is frustrating to constantly hear misstatements from the public.  My favorite: the City owns the waterfront! Hopefully, I corrected a few.  MTCA funds are taxes on crude oil, earmarked for cleanups, although only a fraction is ever spent on that.  It will be collected whether we spend it on the intended purpose or not.  Since Whatcom county refineries supply more than half of the states petroleum needs, we should be getting our share. Secondly, the Western Crossings is not a new government agency.  It has no taxing authority, and no staff.  It is a holding company to facilitate development on the waterfront.  Each entities contribution into it are …

On the Show Today:   Whatcom County Planning Commissioner Dave Onkels; San Juan County Environmental Consultant Ed Kilduff; Sudden Valley Community Member and Realtor Chris Weitzel. Today’s discussion will focus on what is a Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO) and how do they affect property rights?  Later in the show we will have a discussion with Chris Weitzel for further discussion of the implementation of the DOE’s  SWMP/BMP program.  Good science or bad science?  Will it address the issue?  Is there really a problem? Ater today’s show WC Planning Commissioner Dave Onkels and Sudden Valley Community Member Chris Weitzel joined me to complete our conversation on the proposed Stormwater Management Program (SWMP) and Best Management Practices (BMP) for the Lake Whatcom Watershed properties.  Please feel free to share the audio files I have posted here with your contact list of friends and family.  The more everyone understands Whatcom County water issues, how they affect everyone now and in the future, will be a huge factor in how we address this issue and protect personal property rights from bad science and overt regulations. ~ Kris Halterman SML 6-15-2013 Part 1:  SML 6-15-2013 Part 2:  SML 6-15-2013 Part 3:

Kris Halterman interviews Dr. John Lott, Jr : “More Guns-Less Crime” and “At the Brink; Will Obama push us over the edge?” Guests in studio: Elliott Fine of Bellingham; Hobbit and Gun Rights Advocate and Randy Elmore of Bellingham, board member of the Northwest Business Club. Dr. John Lott, Jr economist, political commentator and author of; “More Guns – Less Crime” and “At the Brink; Will Obama push us over the edge?”. Dr. Lott was gracious enough to sit down with me after his engagement at the Northwest Business Club to share a little bit about his life and how he turned a career in economics into a deep understanding of how gun ownership, concealed carry and the 2nd Amendment not only guard against government tyranny, but they really do make our communities and neighborhoods safer, healthier and what we call home.  Afterall, isn’t that what everyone seeks to achieve in life?  That little space we come to rest, relax and spend time with our family and friends; that place called the American Dream. ~ Kris Halterman Lott Interview Part 1:  Lott Interview Part 2:   Lott Interview Part 3:  Lott Interview Part 4:

What To Do About Potential Taking of Properties Due to EPA/Dept. of Ecology Plans?

Today’s Radio Real Estate program featured local Realtor’s Mike Kent and Chris Weitzel.  The shows focus was on this June 18th, 2013 Council decision which could give approval to implement the Department of Ecology’s solution to reduce phosphorus loading in to Lake Whatcom by 87%, through a stormwater management plan.  Mr. Kent’s and Mr. Weitzel’s focus was on phosphorus loading and algal bloom in Lake Whatcom’s basin 1 and basin 2.  But, the real “problem” according to the EPA is the reduction in dissolved oxygen levels in Lake Whatcom basin 1 and basin 2.  (Before going further I would ask that you listen to the June 1st, 2013, Saturday Morning Live (SML) program where Planning Commissioner Dave Onkels clearly explains that the most recent data shows that although algal bloom may still be an issue and phosphorus is still present, the dissolved oxygen levels in Lake Whatcom have stabilized and show trends of improving with the current standards.)  So, with this information readily available to anyone who is willing to look at the issue with fresh eyes, you need to ask yourself whe the DOE would ask Whatcom County to implement their stormwater plan, thus causing a downzone of all …
